After the capture of Hilton Head in 1861 a town grew up to serve the large Union base and it's garrison. The town boasted of a hotel, a movie theatre, two newspapers, and many shops and stores. Restaurants and SALOONS, also appeared centering along a street officially called Suttlers Row, but usually called Robbers Row. Take a guess why this name? |
