William Elliott's Myrtle Bank Plantation was located on the northeast corner of Hilton Head Island.   This plantation was famous for having grown the first crop of  Sea Island Cotton.   Sea Island Cotton was an extra long stapled crop and was first harvested in 1792.  Sea Island Cotton was to become a highly profitable crop on Hilton Head Island until Boll Weevil wiped out the last crop fields in 1917.
